Baby, It's Cold Outside

Whatever last few days of fall we'd been enjoying are officially over. "Dunzo", as my friends in LB would say.

I got home from dinner with Karen, Beth and Amber last night and the wind had started. To understand why this is a problem, you should know that I live right off of the foothills and therefore, get all of the high winds that come screeching off the mountains during a storm. So last night the wind howled. I went upstairs to my bedroom and decided it was going to be a three blanket kind of night. I opened up the chest in my room and grabbed my big, fuzzy blanket and threw it over my down comforter. I usually sleep in a tank top and pajama pants but last night I busted out a long sleeve shirt because it was frickin freezing Mr. Bigglesworth. And I did the one thing I hate more than anything when it comes to sleeping: I put socks on before I crawled into bed.

I crawled out of bed this morning and was again met with the wind and the coldness. I put on my slippers and a sweatshirt and headed downstairs to make some tea. The main level of my house was even colder than upstairs so once the tea kettle was on, I wrapped up with a blanket on the couch. When the kettle started to whistle I got up and fixed my tea as well as some oatmeal, thinking those two things would warm me up. Yeah, not so much.

Barley started giving me his normal Sunday morning look so I went upstairs and bundled up to take him for his walk. We took one step out the door and the wind basically bitch-slapped me. As much as I wanted to turn right back inside I didn't because I knew I couldn't take the guilt of disappointing my dog. So we headed to the park, Barley's tail wagging furiously as I tried to squint and keep the wind from drying my eyes out completely. We made it around the lake twice before my cheeks started to sting from the wind. (Sidebar: Trying to pick up dog crap in a wind storm? Oh there is just NOTHING more fun.)

We got home and I jumped in the shower hoping to warm up a bit. It worked while I was in there but as soon as I set one foot on the shower rug as I was getting out, I felt the cold air again. I managed to get into my robe and dry my hair before I dove back into my bed for some warmth. And the only reason I'm even blogging about all of this right now is because my laptop is warm and so when I blog while in bed, it's almost like having an electric blanket.

All of this because I'm too cheap to turn up my thermostat. *sigh*

we ran out of propane at my house in tahoe. twice in 1 season! it gets dang cold when you have no propane for heat or hot water. i'm usually one to not use indoor climate control, but maybe it's cool to treat yourself to a couple more degrees of warmy goodness.

I was just about to ask about your heat. I hope you're warmer today. Don't be afraid to turn it up.

It's 35 degrees out in the middle of the day -- turn up the heat!!

Or maybe come over later for piping hot chicken enchiladas. Mmmmmmmmm. Because not only do you love them, but also I keep my heat at a reasonable level.

Ok, I'll turn up the heat if you guys want to help subsidize my heating bill when it comes. It's not cheap heating my crib. :(
P.S. Amber, sprinkle a crushed up Claritin in the enchiladas and I'll be over.

That's it you little pansy, time to toughen up. No heat until the new year. Rub some sticks and sleep with dog.

Okay, i really dont mean all that but I just wanted to say something different from everyone else. Holla.

Suddenly Texas isn't so bad.

Ex boyfriends college sweat shirts always do the trick for me? Or just pull your man close and don't let go.

Sass - Do you know of any good men you could send my way? Because there isn't one in my house to speak of so I may have to go with the sweatshirt idea. I do have a sweatshirt from many an ex boyfriend.
