I Blame the Moon

Strange things are afoot lately.

First of all, my mom got into a car accident last night while driving to meet me for dinner. Her last night in Denver and she gets hit by some idiot. She wasn’t hurt which is the only thing that matters but she was pretty upset last night.

Second, a small airplane landed on I-25 today. For those of you who don’t know Denver, I-25 is one of our busiest interstates and not typically a place where one would land a plane.

Next, I got an email from my friend Shawn today. She said that while she was taking her dog for a walk, she saw a driver-less milk truck pop into reverse and hit a car. It happened two houses down from where Shawn was walking.

Then, I was driving to lunch today when my entire dashboard went black. The car kept running but none of the lights on the dashboard worked. I was starting to freak out because I’m not a girl who deals well with vehicular problems when the lights all came back on. It didn’t happen again the rest of the afternoon.

And finally, I was sitting in my office this morning shortly after 8a.m. As I took a sip of my coffee, I heard a strange sound. I stopped typing to listen. I heard it again and turned my radio off to get a better idea of what it was. After hearing it a third time, I got up and walked into the hall because it was coming from that general direction. I stood there for a moment and didn’t hear it again. The second I headed for my door I heard it again but it was coming from outside. I opened the door and a black cat darted in and ran down the hall. He ran into the kitchen and when I went in to get him, he crawled behind a shelving unit and wouldn’t come out. I coaxed him out with some Coffeemate (who knew cats liked Gingerbread flavored creamer?) and picked him up to take him outside. When I opened the door I realized it was still below freezing outside and didn’t have the heart to put him out in the cold. The office next to mine is empty so I opened the door and put him in there. I figured I’d let him out when it warmed up. I went to a meeting for a half hour and when I got back the door was still closed by the cat was gone. There’s no furniture in that office so he couldn’t be hiding. The cat just disappeared. (Also, I’m allergic to cats in a big and bad way so I’m now covered with hives and have a runny nose.)

I’m going to blame the full moon for all of this.

(Photo of the moon last night on my drive home. Thus, the cockeyed shot.)

Which is better by far than blaming it on the rain, as Milli Vanilli did. And we all know what happened to THOSE guys.

Huh. No coworkers saw this "cat" you claim to have rescued? Perhaps more sleep....

Jokin' - The dashboard thing would've freaked me right out.

Amber, you're seriously cracking me up today. (Makes up for the crying I wanted to do on your blog. Did I mention how sweet that was?)

Kendra, love that photo.

That's all just REALLY eery! I blame everything on the moon. It really helps, doesn't it?!

Are you sure it was a cat and not a garbage bag? Here kitty kitty...

Atta girl. I'm blaming all my problems on the insidious blouse I wore out tonight. And the dangly earings . . . or something like that.

wow, that is really weird stuff. i often feel like there's some weird cosmic vibe that is sending odd things down to rain upon me just to see what my reaction would be. and then it laughs. or something. maybe it's my grandpa. haha.

To clear up Whinger's confusion...
My building has two sets of offices - front and back. I sit in the front offices by myself...there are six empty offices, bathrooms and a kitchen around me. They're supposed to be moving a few people down here after the first of the year but until then, I've got no one to witness goings-on with the cat. But, I did mention it to one of the guys who said that there is a cat who hangs out around our building all the time. Guess I'll stock up on more Gingerbread Coffeemate. :)

I just thought you were trying to explain away a strange night of passion in which you ended up with hickeys all over your arms.

Whinger - a night of passion these days would be strange. It looks like it's going to be a long, cold winter.
Rico - I just pictured you singing Milli Vanilli under the full moon -with your ponytail. I know it's not there anymore, but I like the visual.

That is crazy!! We always get lots of weirdo customers around the full moon for some reason. Strange.
