New Development

An interesting thing has happened in the last week or so…

Someone from work is reading my blog. And not just a post or two – they’ve read damn near every post since the beginning. I’m quite certain they don’t know that I know they’re reading, but I do. I also know what times they read, what pages they read and how often they read. Tracking systems on blogs are a wonderful thing.

As I’ve said in previous posts, this whole thing was started for my five friends from high school so that we could all keep in touch. I never really figured anyone else would ever read it. But now there are more people reading it - it's actually been really cool getting to know you guys through your blogs. And as odd as it is to say, I’m more comfortable with people I’ve never met reading this stuff than I am with someone I work with. Perhaps I have a Dooce complex? Perhaps I don’t like the fact that they didn’t tell me on their own that they were reading.

So now I’m not really sure what to do. What do you guys think? I’d love some advice because right now, I’ve come up with no good solution.

Is this the end of Just Me? It just might be…

She DID check that it wasn't her own IP -- I sent her what her IP address is as it shows up on my blog. *snorts and pushes up glasses*

Wendi has moved her blog 4 or 5 times now b/c a relative found it. It's a tough call. But she knows you know now. Just let us all know if you move.

Interesting. No easy answer here. I just told an acquaintance about my blog and then realized I say more open things to the strangers who read my blog than I ever have to this person. Kind of unsettling.

In your case, if they ARE reading your blog, then they'll see this post and, if they are decent sort, should come clean and mention it to you. If not, I'd be kind of spooked.

Sorry, that wasn't helpful. :-( Laura

Yes, I hope that whoever it is admits it to you after reading this. You can't go! We've only just (virtually) met!

They know you know now. I hope they fess up or you decide to stay with this (or move). I have lost one blog buddy and I can't take losing two.

PS>How do youtrack who reads your blog? I so want to know!

I use sitemeter.com. It's fantastic! :)

I use StatCounter, too. Po-TAY-to, Po-TAH-to.

Do you find yourself frantically going through old entries to see what you've posted about work?

It's all very strange when our acquaintances start reading...but I don't think you have anything to apologize for.

I've never really written about work or coworkers because I like my job and don't want to lose it. I just don't like the fact that this person is reading and not telling me about it. Not like they HAVE to tell me but it's just creepy. Guess I should have considered that possibility before I started writing...

If you're friendly with your IT staff, they could tell you whose IP it is. But it is most likely one of them....

Well, you know they know now.

You know, the funny thing is, most of the people who read mine are just cyber-pals, too... Even though I've told a few friends and family, they're always like "gee, I keep MEANING to check it..." yeah, whatever, no biggie. I mean, it's just for venting and fun anyway. But back to YOU - if you DO move, you'd better do some sneaky code to let us know where you are!!!
