I’m a monogamous girl. I don’t cheat because I honestly think it’s one of the worst things a person can do. I’ve dealt with it too many times and it’s awful and I don’t ever want to be responsible for making anyone else feel that way. All of that being said, I’m feeling pretty guilty today because…
I cheated. And it felt so, so, soooooo good.
I had a hair appointment on Saturday and my cousin Jordan was going to be cutting and coloring my hair for the first time. She’s been working at this salon not far from my house for about a year but I’ve never gone to her before. A girl's relationship with her hairstylist is a sacred one and I adore my normal stylist. But, family is family and I support my family so I had to give Jordan a chance.
I’ve had highlights for several years and had decided to get rid of them and get back to my natural color. I figured a rich brown would be fun for fall and so very Eva Longoria of me. I also needed to have some length taken off because my hair was looking less like that of a 29-year-old professional and more like a 14-year-old cheerleader. So Jordan and I discussed hair color (I even brought a picture of the color I liked) and length. I made her show me what her definition of an inch was to ensure it was the same as my definition. It was not. But we worked that out prior to scissors approaching my head. What can I say? I'm a control freak about my hair.
The color went on first and because I’ve never had an all-over color done, I was freaking out a little bit. She put some purple potion on my head, handed me a stack of magazines and told me to hang out for 30 minutes. I glanced up to see a smudge of the purple stuff on my forehead. She must have seen me looking at it because she walked over with a towel that had some other kind of potion on it and wiped my forehead.
“It comes off, Kendra. Quit looking so worried. I’m the one who should worry. If I screw this up, you’ll kick my ass and tell the whole family about how I ruined your lovely hair.”
*sigh* She knows me so well.
After the color had set she washed my hair and gave me a scalp massage. Then she put some kind of fantastic smelling conditioner on my hair. Once that was done, she put a wrapped a towel around my head and lead me back to the chair.
“I’m more nervous cutting your hair than I was when I took the state boards,” she said as she snipped the first section of hair.
About an hour later, my hair was colored, cut, washed, dried and styled. While I don’t look like Eva Longoria (What do you mean haircoloring doesn’t transform your face???) I do enjoy the results. I’ll let you guys judge for yourselves…
I must say sorry to Courtnie, my stylist of the last four years, for straying. I really do feel bad about cheating but Jordan did do a great job. And I’m not gonna lie…the family discount doesn’t hurt either.

I need Jordie to give me a pedicure STAT! And she's in such a handy location, just seconds from my house. Think she'd hook me up with the family discount?
I'm shocked that you even let me get near your hair with scissors in high school! Glad to have a pro in the family now. :)
Your hair looks so healthy and shiny! I'm getting color next week; I can't wait. Last week I got a haircut--and unlike you, was not clear enough about defining what an inch means. Argh. It grows back.
Well as long as it was worth it...why not?
Oh and also? I have always been jealous of your fabulous hair. There, I said it. Even when it was not the exact right color that we meant it to be. But in my defense, it was NOT PINK.
It's FABULOUS Kendra!!! Can Jordan do my hair too?!?
heck yeah! it was apparently well worth the cheat!
Ohh! You are beautiful :)!
Ohh! You are beautiful :)!
Great hair!! It's soooo much nicer when your hair turns out looking great as opposed to, say, looking NOT HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO??? But I’m over that now, my brown did fade to a pleasant dark blonde. I guess my stylist was right, therefore I will not cheat on her. Unless of course your cousin Jordan ever comes out to IL… ;)
It looks great. The color suits you well. This was definately worth cheating and more rewarding than a box of bon bons.
It looks awesome!!! I need to get into the salon soon. I've got some maja roots goin on ifyouknowwhatimean.
Sometimes there's a difference in cheating and meeting the person who was meant for you while you just happen to be with someone else.
