Musical Interlude

Last weekend I decided to come into the 21st century with everyone else – I bought an iPod. I purchased the lovely white one with video and 1.1 jiggawatts of memory. (Ok, so I think it was actually 30 GB but anyone who knows me knows that I love the jiggawatt as a unit of measurement.)

Anyway, I bought my new little toy and took it home to discover the world of iTunes. I’m ashamed to admit how many hours I spent searching for all sorts of music. And I’m even more ashamed to admit how much money I spent on said music. One of my favorite features of iTunes is Celebrity Playlists. I love seeing what other people are listening to because it’s basically just a bunch of mix tapes and boy, did I love me some mix tapes back in the day.

In honor of the Celebrity Playlists, I’ve decided to feature KC’s Playlists here on Just Me. Starting now, I will feature (on an unregular basis) my playlists. *This is where you pretend to be excited…*

So without further ado here’s the first one – Insomniacs Mix. Though I’ve been sleeping well lately, insomnia will surely rear her ugly head again and when she does, I’m gonna bitch-slap her with this mix.

1. Ain’t No Sunshine – Bill Withers
I like to think that every ex-boyfriend hears this song in his head when he remembers me. J

2. All I Want is You – U2
Favorite line:
You say you’ll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
River in a time of dryness
A harbor in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

3. Always with You, Always with Me – Joe Satriani
This song reminds me of a camping trip with a guy I dated one summer in college. We both knew it wouldn’t last but damn, it was a great summer.

4. By Your Side – Sade
She has the most beautiful voice.

5. Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol
Just lovely.

6. Come Rain or Come Shine – Billie Holiday
I’ve always said if I could hear three words from a man, it would be “no matter what” vs. “I love you”. This song strikes me as a “no matter what” kind of song.

7. Landed – Ben Folds
You know how sometimes you hear a song and you swear it could have been written about a situation from your own life? Or perhaps the life of someone you know? I’m speaking hypothetically, of course…

8. Fade into You – Mazzy Star
I have no clue what she’s singing about but I sure do love this song.

9. Missing You – John Waite
I loved this song back in the day. Then I found an acoustic version on iTunes and I fell in love all over again. I’ve only felt that ache for one person and when I heard this version, it made me think of him.

10. Tiny Dancer – Elton John
When I was little, this song reminded me of the ballerina who would pop up out of my little jewelry box and spin around. I would actually sing this song to her when I would get my plastic charm necklace out each morning. Who’s the coolest girl you know? Not me.

11. Reason Why – Rachel Yamagata
Because the only people who ever really know what went on in a relationship are the two who were actually in it.

12. Last Goodbye – Jeff Buckley
The ultimate break-up song.

13. Why – Annie Lennox
Favorite line:
Some things are better left unsaid
But they still turn me inside out…

14. Wild Horses – Alicia Keys and Adam Levine
I would never have thought of putting their voices together but it totally works on this song.

15. Swallowed in the Sea – Coldplay
Favorite Line:
Oh, what good is it to live
With nothing left to give
Forget, but not forgive
Not loving all you see

Um, where is "Regulators"? That's the perfect song for ANY and EVERY playlist!

Also, I'm laughing at "jiggawatt" because when I was talking to you earlier, you said "Jigga What?" And it made me laugh.

I've never heard a single one of those songs.
