I just walked in the door from seeing the lovely Miss Gwen Stefani perform at the Pepsi Center. The concert was awesome and because I am (on occasion) spoiled rotten by the Workplace, the suite (with free food and drink) was also awesome.
I want to tell you all about it but I am dog tired since I've been on the go since 4:30am. So right about now I am typing this with the heaviest of lids. But before I crawl into my bed and fall dead asleep I had to share just a few funny things before I forget...
1) At the beginning of the show, Gwen yelled out, "How you all, Utah?" Because Colorado people are so nice, we all just cheered anyway. She caught it a few minutes later and made fun of herself.
2) Lady Sovereign was one of the opening acts. She wrapped up with "Love Me or Hate Me" and I found myself worried that she was singing unedited lyrics ("If you love me then thank you. And if you hate me then fuck you.") and flipping off the crowd because there were a lot of young kids in the audience. It's official: I'm old.
3) Akon was the other opening act. I've always liked him and he is a fantastic live performer but I came to understand just how wide his appeal was when a forty-something mother (rockin' her high-waisted jeans and sensible shoes) was singing along to "Smack that Ass". And when he got to the part about "women just hoin', big booty rollin'" she shook her ass for all it was worth. I laughed so hard I did one of those seal bark laughs and had tears coming down my cheeks.
Ok, seriously, I have got to get to bed.
Get it girl, get it get it girl. Get it girl, get it get it girl...

ahhh! i am so jealous, i love gwen!!! okay, i'm at work right now, and i actually just snorted while reading this because i'm laughing so hard. the guy next to me is staring at me as i type these words, in fact! only in denver--AND MINNESOTA!--would people continue to cheer along when the performer yells out the wrong state. im scared just thinking about what would have happened to her here in nyc...
Yeah. I woulda thrown a beer at her ala Talladega.
here in pittsburgh we would have been SO unfriendly to a performer who doesn't know where they are. although any positive mention of the steelers will send a crown near frenzy so we can get over the geography blunder quickly if they are smart enough to ask "how bout dem stillers?!!?!"
i'm all kinds of jealous about the gwen concert. very, very cool. oh, and this almost 36 year old (yay, july!) loves me some akon. although i am all about old, my car stereo gets cranked when "smack that" starts playing. glad you had fun!
(and hope you got a little rest)
