So usually I'm a light sleeper. I hear every little noise, I've never slept through the phone and I wake up at least once a night when the dog shifts around in his bed. What is important to note is that when I wake up, I'm not the most coherent. A good example of this happened in high school and while Becki tells the story better than I do, I'll give it a shot. It was senior year and I had been sick with mono. I was sleeping all the time and had missed a week of school but had to get back for finals. So one afternoon after classes were over I went home and took a nap. I woke up and looked at the clock to discover that I had slept from 4pm to 9am. I freaked out because I missed a HUGE final and was certain that I wasn't going to graduate because of it. Right about that time, Becki called and I lost my mind. I told her that I'd missed my final and I wasn't going to graduate which would lead to no college which would lead to no job which would lead to me ultimately living in a van down by the river. Just as my panic was on the verge of hysteria Becki informed me that it was 9pm and I had roughly 10 hours until my final. *whew*
So a similar scene happened again last night...kinda. I was exhausted when I got home from work yesterday but managed to stay up until 10pm. I'm pretty sure I was asleep within 30 seconds of getting into bed which just never happens. I was having some pretty vivid dreams about random things when my cell rang. It was Rosie who started the call by apologizing for calling but she was walking through Wash Park. This is how the rest of the conversation went:
Me: Where did you stay last night?!?!
Rosie: What?
Me: Where did you stay last night?
Rosie: What are you talking about? I'm walking through Wash Park and I thought it would be better to be one the phone.
Me: Why are you at Wash Park and why would it be better to be on the phone?
Rosie: Because walking through a park late at night all alone is a bad idea but this guy I work with didn't walk me to my car.
Me: Did you stay with him last night?
Rosie: WHAT? It still is last night. I'm sorry I'm calling so late and waking you up but Jim totally ditched me when he was supposed to walk me to my car and now I'm in the park all alone.
Me: ***in my head: Ok, so it's still night, she had dinner with her team and then was walking to her car with someone and he didn't walk her to her car because he's an idiot. She is not at Wash Park Grille, she is IN Wash Park and thus the phone call.*** What I said outloud: Oh. Ok, are you ok?
Rosie: I'm fine I just thought I should be one the phone. I'm so sorry to call so late.
Me: Don't worry about it. ***In my head: this means I still have many hours to sleep before work. Yeah!***
So the good news is that if you ever need to call late, I will always answer. The bad news is that I may not have a clue what is going on for at least 5 minutes.

Let's not forget another classic:
Kendra was working for Lucent and had this task which involved fractions of numbers (don't know why). So I called one morning, woke her up, and told her I would be at her house in 5 minutes. She said something like, "okay, see you in 30 minutes" and I clarified, "no, FIVE minutes" and she insisted that she had much more to sleep because I hadn't taken into account all those fractions of numbers in between the five minutes. Riiiiiight. 10 years later, she'll never live this one down.
One time, Becki wrote a paper on The Great Gatsby and spelled it GatPY through the entire thing.
