The Big 3-0

First look at 30. This was me, fresh out of the shower, on 7/27/06. My forehead did not become smaller when I turned 30...unfortunately. And my hair did not magically lose all it's friz. *sigh* But I posted a self portrait last year so I thought I'd continue the tradition...

My college roommate, Marla, flew in that afternoon and we had dinner with a bunch of people that evening. As I was getting ready for dinner, a van pulled up in front of my house. I flew down the stairs because I saw it was a flower delivery van and I can move pretty fast when flowers are involved. I looked out the window to see the delivery guy pull out a HUGE bouquet. Seriously, it was gigantic. I opened the card and it was from my wonderful friend, Marissa! And just so you all understand how big and gorgeous the bouquet was...

Ok, so Blogger hates me right now and I can't seem to organize any of these photos. I'll upload more later but here's the preview.

The party was great...with the exception that it was roughly 1 billion degrees outside. If we all look hot and sweaty, it's because we were. But we combated the head with cold drinks and everyone survived.

And because it wouldn't be my birthday without someone falling down, we did have an unnamed party-goer take a tumble. And to that unnamed person I can only say I'm happy there were no serious injuries. :) It's actually a wonder that I didn't fall down because I ended up doing quite a few shots and was wearing shoes that were not user friendly but were hot as hell. Why, oh why, didn't someone get a picture with my magic shoes? But I digress...

Ok, so I got some pretty great presents but the funniest had to be the fact that another unnamed party goer brought me two firemen. This particular unnamed party goer is himself, a fire fighter and so he brough two of his friends along as my "presents". They introduced themselves to me as the strippers for the party. Now I'm a fan of any man who can throw me over his should and carry me down a ladder but when you add a sense of humor to that, well you can just color me happy.

So many of my friends were able to attend the festivities - special props to my friend Keeley and his girlfriend Roselyn who drove in all the way from Kansas City to help me celebrate. I'm so absurdly lucky to have the friends that I have. Everytime I turned around someone else was showing up to the party. And everytime I turned around someone was handing me a vodka tonic or a shot. Ok, so after a while, the shots started to take their toll because I'm an old broad now. But I'm happy to report that I did not get sick and I only felt mildly like crap the next day. Oh and I didn't drunk dial anyone! And the Drunk Kissing Bandit was no where to be found.

Look at me behaving like an adult. Perhaps I'm turning over a new leaf in my 30's...

I feel like this is going to be a really great year. I mean, hell, any year that starts with a party like that plus two fire fighters can't be bad, right?
