It's official: I'm handy.
After months and months of procrastinating, I finally put together the file cabinet for my home office. During the blizzards last winter, I decided I would get my office organized. It was a gigantic undertaking as I am a pack rat. I also wanted to have a secure place to keep things like the deed to my car, my parents' wills and info for my house. I figured at 30 I should start acting like a grown-up about such matters. Anyway, I bought this small file cabinet and then promptly put it in the guestroom closet because the "assembly required" scared me a bit. And then there was the Great Guestroom Disaster of 2007 which led to all the guestroom furniture being moved into the office for 9 weeks and I couldn't even get to the closet to get to the file cabinet. But since everything is back in the guestroom now, I decided I needed to actually put the damn cabinet together. But this weekend I finally put it together and guess what? The drawers? They slide in AND out! And nothing's wobbly or leaning precariously to one side. Ok, so in the grand scheme of things, I'm not all that handy but would you be more impressed if I told you I did all of this in a sundress? Because I did.
In other news, everyone's knocked up. I went to two baby showers on Saturday and both of them were coed. I had fun but never in my life have I seen so many bored men. It reminded me a bit of the sad lot you see sitting outside of ladies dressing rooms on a Saturday at Nordstroms. As a woman, I never understood the inclination to bring your boyfriend/husband along on a shopping trip. Like you're ever going to get an honest answer to the question, "Does this make my butt look big?" from a guy who's banking on getting some from the asker of said question later that evening. Anyway, I guess coed baby showers are all the rage and to each their own. However, should I ever get married and make babies, I can only hope that I marry a man who knows his place and goes golfing the day of my shower. I just can't see myself married to a guy who wants to sit around ohhhhing and ahhhhing over blankies and a Baby Bjorn.
I finally got around to adding the rest of the links (over there on the right)that I had up before I redesigned the site. I don't know why it took me so long but if it took me six months to put together a file cabinet, I'd say we're lucky the links made it up at all. Nothing too exciting but an excellent way to waste some time at the office on a Monday. Not that I endorse that at all...
Barley and I just got home from a long walk at the greenbelt. He spent most of the time desperately trying to get his paws on one of the billion prairie dogs and I spent a great deal of time looking for snakes as several people gave me warnings as we set off. It was an exhausting hour and a half but I think I got a little color on my shoulders and cheeks and I did have a good mix to listen to on the trusty iPod. Since it's been a while, here's what's ringing in my ears these days...
1. Beastie Boys - Sabotage
One of their finest.
2. Love and Memories - O.A.R.
Just puts me in a good mood.
3. The Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani
There's something about the beat of this song that just screams summer to me.
4. Amazing - Josh Kelley
This is the kind of song I'd listen to with all the windows down while driving through the mountains.
5. Life on a Chain - Pete Yorn
Who doesn't love a little Pete?
6. Summertime - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
Oh come on, how could I possibly make a summer mix and not include this?
7. Stay - Dave Matthews Band
"...it was so hot outside you could fry an egg..." Indeed.
8. Follow Through - Gavin DeGraw
Wish he'd do some new stuff. But of the old, I love this one.
9. Portions for Foxes - Rilo Kiely
Best line - "And the talkin leads to touchin and the touchin leads to sex and then there is no mystery left."
10. So Long, So Long - Dashboard Confessional
I listened to this album all the time last summer. I love every single song but this one is soooo good.
11. Temperature - Sean Paul
Just makes me want to dance.
12. It Must Be Summer - Fountains of Wayne
Best band name on this mix.
13. Oppenheimer - Old 97's
It's the clapping I enjoy the most.
14. No Woman, No Cry - Bob Marley
Shouldn't we all be on a beach somewhere drinking Red Stripe and lounging in a hammock?

You are way handier than I could ever DREAM of being. I'm so impressed! Good music here. It's funny, I've been listening a lot to Stay and Summertime the past couple of months too. It's just that kind of a summer!

Scott - I will assume you were injured in a horrible spluenking accident or have been trapped under something heavy for the last YEAR and that's why I haven't seen you. Those are the only two reasonable explinations I can come up with for your absence since my birthday last year. Boy, you've got some 'splaining to do. Nevertheless, I've missed you and hope you'll be making an appearance at this years festivities.
