2007: Year in Review (Part 1)

I got an email from a reader the other day asking if I was ok since it had been such a long time since I've posted anything. And the answer is yes, I'm fine. I'm actually great but I just haven't felt much like writing and have had a million things going on over the holidays. But I thought it was really sweet that someone checked in so I figured I'd post before the end of the year. However, I'm on vacation and am really striving to be as lazy as humanly possible so I did a year end meme. Riveting, I know...

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before? Hung out with The Nadas on their tour bus; had some Honey & Wine ; saw Gwen Stefani in concert; saw Chicago in the summer; turned 31; drank way too much Natty Boh in Baltimore; and last but certainly not least - saw the Rockies make it to the World Series.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I kept several of them but not all of them. Good news: Got more sleep, ate more french toast, worked out hard, tried not to worry so much, and was kissed really well. Bad news: still worried about dumb stuff, didn't write those letters, no more stamps in my passport, didn't get kissed really well nearly enough. And yes, I'm sure I'll make more for '08.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Oh yeah, lots. Five new babies of family and friends including the newest addition to our already huge family - Bradley Dean.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no. There was more than enough of that in '06.

5. What countries did you visit?
Was here in the USA the whole year. Gotta change that in '08.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
I didn't lack for much in 2007; it was pretty great year.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
There aren't any specific dates that stick out from 2007. There were a lot of cool things that happened but no specific dates to remember.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not to sound callous, but my biggest achievement was probably ending relationships with people who weren't good for me.

9. What was your biggest failure?
My inability to keep my mouth shut sometimes.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not much more than a couple of dumb colds.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My Jeep!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Several people - myself included.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
 Several people - myself included.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Student loans and 401K.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The new job; Labor Day camping trip; the way my legs looked after all that running! (Ok, so they're really white. Give me a break, it's winter.)

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
 "Good Life" Kanye West

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
 a) happier or sadder? Happier!
b) thinner or fatter?
Thinner! c) richer or poorer?
Richer! Damn, it was a good year!

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Travel.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
 Worry about dumb stuff.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Surrounded by family in a gorgeous Colorado snow storm.

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Nope, but I did have a crush. Haven't had one of those in ages and it was so much fun!

22. What was your favorite TV program? The Office

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Nope.

24. What was the best book you read?
"Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
 "Drivin' Me Wild" by Common.

26. What did you want and get?
Tickets to Michael Buble for my birthday. (Thanks, Karen!)

27. What did you want and not get?
Tickets to a World Series game.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Is it wrong if I say "The Simpsons Movie"?

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went to dinner with friends for my 31st birthday. Then came home and joined my neighbors at a bbq they were having where I consumed WAY too many cocktails.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
See answer to #27.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
I've always liked classic looks and that didn't change much in 2007. Not sure I've ever had a "fashion concept". Not even really sure what that means.

32. What kept you sane?
Running, cooking, red wine, people who made me laugh.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
 Clive Owen.
But of course, I'll always love me some Josh Jackson...no matter what year it is. *sigh*

34. How many one night stands? Seriously? I'm 31. One night stands were never my thing and I doubt I'll take them up now. And as Cher Horowitz said while defending her lack of action, "You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on my feet!"

35. Who did you miss?
Uncle Brad.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
Hmmmm, this is tough because I met some cool people. But I'd have to say co-worker A., with whom I have more fun than one should be allowed to have at work.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
I learned that it's not about getting what you want but wanting what you've got. And that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be right now...both literally and figuratively.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. "Don't worry about a thing, cause every little thing is gonna be alright..."

There's no such thing as too many cocktails. I did the exact same meme and apparently our taste in celebrities this year was identical.

Happy New Year! I hope 2008 brings you to the foreign land of California. I will stamp your passport with Emery's paw if you would like.
